OPEN ACCESS COMMITMENT

Wider Access to Teacher Education and Pedagogical Knowledge

Teacher Education International Journal of Pedagogical Research supports open access to scholarly knowledge in order to promote wider dissemination, academic exchange and accessibility of research relating to teacher education, pedagogy, professional learning and emerging educational practices.

Articles made available through the journal are intended to be accessible to readers without conventional subscription barriers, thereby enabling researchers, teacher educators, teachers, educational practitioners, students, policymakers and other interested readers to engage with published scholarship.

Open access is intended to expand the reach of scholarly knowledge while maintaining appropriate respect for authorship, citation, copyright, licensing conditions, third-party rights and responsible academic use.

CORE OPEN ACCESS PRINCIPLES

Principles Guiding Open Scholarly Access

1
Accessibility
2
Visibility
3
Knowledge Sharing
4
Responsible Reuse
01   FREE ACCESS FOR READERS

Removing Subscription Barriers

Published journal content is intended to be available for scholarly reading without requiring readers to purchase an individual article or maintain a conventional subscription in order to access the published research.

This approach supports broader participation in scholarly communication, particularly for teachers, teacher educators, research scholars and educational practitioners who may not have access to extensive institutional subscription resources.

The removal of a reader-side subscription barrier does not remove the obligation to respect applicable copyright, licensing, attribution and third-party rights.

02   ACCESS TO PUBLISHED ARTICLES

Making Published Scholarship Available

Once an article is published and made available by the journal, readers may access the published content through the journal platform in accordance with the journal's applicable publication and access conditions.

The purpose of open accessibility is to support timely scholarly exchange and enable research findings to contribute to academic discussion, teacher education, pedagogical development and educational practice.

03. Knowledge Sharing and Scholarly Exchange

TEIJPR views scholarly communication as a process through which research can contribute to the development of professional knowledge, educational practice and future research.

Open access can enable published work to reach a wider range of readers, including researchers, teacher educators, classroom teachers, educational leaders, policy researchers and institutions engaged in teacher preparation and professional learning.

Authors and readers are encouraged to use published research responsibly in ways that support scholarly discussion, evidence-informed practice and further academic inquiry.

04   GLOBAL SCHOLARLY VISIBILITY

Extending the Reach of Educational Research

Open access can increase opportunities for research to be discovered, read, discussed and used across different institutional and geographical settings.

For teacher-education research in particular, broader visibility may help connect scholarship produced in universities, teacher-education institutions, schools and professional-development contexts with wider educational communities.

Availability through open access does not constitute a guarantee of inclusion in any particular indexing service, database, citation system or research-evaluation platform.

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION

Free to Read Does Not Automatically Mean Public Domain

The fact that an article is freely accessible online does not automatically place the article, its figures, tables, images, instruments or other content in the public domain. Copyright, licensing conditions, author rights and third-party rights may continue to govern reproduction, redistribution, adaptation or other forms of reuse.

06   ATTRIBUTION AND CITATION

Open Access Does Not Remove the Duty to Cite

Anyone using ideas, data, arguments, findings or other scholarly material from an article should provide appropriate academic attribution and citation.

Presenting freely accessible scholarly content as one's own work without acknowledgement may constitute plagiarism even where the original article can be accessed without charge.

Authors and readers should therefore distinguish clearly between the right to access scholarly material and the obligation to recognise the intellectual contribution of its creators.

07   RESPONSIBLE REUSE OF PUBLISHED MATERIAL

Readers may use published scholarship for legitimate academic activities subject to applicable copyright, licensing and attribution requirements.

Reuse should not misrepresent an author's findings, remove relevant context, alter research evidence misleadingly or imply endorsement by authors or the journal where no such endorsement exists.

Where reproduction or adaptation requires permission under the applicable rights framework, users remain responsible for obtaining such permission.

08. Copyright and Licensing

Open access concerns the accessibility of published scholarship, while copyright and licensing determine the rights and conditions governing reproduction, distribution, adaptation and other forms of reuse.

Readers and authors should therefore refer to the copyright and licensing information applicable to an individual article or to the journal's relevant publication terms before assuming that unrestricted reuse is permitted.

TEIJPR does not treat the simple availability of an article online as automatic permission for unrestricted copying, commercial exploitation, modification or redistribution.

09   THIRD-PARTY MATERIAL

An article may contain photographs, figures, instruments, scales, tables, illustrations, extracts or other content for which rights are held by a third party.

The access status of the article as a whole does not necessarily determine the reuse rights of every item contained within it.

Users should observe any credit lines, permissions, restrictions or rights notices associated with third-party content before reproducing or adapting such material.

10   AUTHORS AND OPEN ACCESS

Author Responsibility Continues after Publication

Open accessibility does not reduce the responsibility of authors for the originality, accuracy, integrity, references, data, permissions and ethical compliance of their published work.

Authors remain responsible for ensuring that copyrighted or third-party material included in their articles has been used lawfully and with appropriate acknowledgement or permission where required.

Authors should also ensure that any sharing or republication of their work remains consistent with the copyright, licensing and publication conditions applicable to the article.

11   AUTHOR SHARING AND SELF-ARCHIVING

Authors may share or archive permitted versions of their work where such sharing is consistent with the copyright, licensing and publication conditions applicable to the article.

Where institutional repositories, personal academic pages or other scholarly platforms are used, authors should provide appropriate bibliographic information and, where relevant, identify the formally published version.

Authors should not assume that every manuscript version carries identical reuse or redistribution rights; the applicable publication terms should be consulted where necessary.

12. Educational and Research Use

TEIJPR encourages responsible use of published research in teaching, teacher-education programmes, professional-development activities, academic research and scholarly discussion, subject to applicable rights and attribution requirements.

Teachers and teacher educators may refer to published findings in classroom and professional-learning contexts while maintaining proper citation and respecting any restrictions applying to reproduction of complete articles, figures, tables or other protected material.

Open access should support wider educational engagement while preserving recognition of authorship and the integrity of the original research.

13   OPEN ACCESS AND PEER-REVIEW QUALITY

Accessibility Does Not Reduce Scholarly Standards

The open-access status of an article does not alter the journal's expectations concerning originality, research ethics, manuscript quality, peer review, revision or editorial assessment.

Manuscripts are evaluated according to relevant scholarly criteria irrespective of the fact that accepted articles may subsequently be made openly accessible to readers.

Open access is a model of scholarly dissemination and should not be interpreted as a substitute for rigorous peer review or responsible editorial decision-making.

14   OPEN ACCESS AND PUBLICATION CHARGES

Reader Access and Author-Side Charges Are Separate Matters

Open access describes the accessibility of published content to readers. It should not automatically be interpreted as a statement about whether publication charges, processing charges or other author-side fees apply.

Where any author-side publication charge applies, such information should be communicated separately through the journal's relevant fee or publication-charge information rather than inferred solely from the open-access status of the journal.

15. Discovery, Metadata and Scholarly Visibility

The journal may use appropriate bibliographic metadata and digital publication practices to support discovery and identification of published content.

Accurate titles, author details, abstracts, keywords and other metadata can support the visibility and retrieval of research concerning teacher education and pedagogy.

Open availability does not guarantee a particular level of readership, citation, impact or inclusion within any specific indexing or abstracting service.

16   CONTINUITY OF SCHOLARLY ACCESS

TEIJPR seeks to maintain appropriate digital publication, metadata and journal-management practices that support continuing access to the scholarly record.

Specific preservation or archival arrangements, where implemented, may be described separately by the journal and should not be inferred unless expressly stated.

17   OPEN ACCESS AND POST-PUBLICATION INTEGRITY

Open accessibility does not prevent the journal from correcting the scholarly record where credible post-publication concerns arise.

Published articles may remain subject to clarification, correction, editorial notices, expressions of concern or retraction where appropriate to the nature and seriousness of a verified issue.

The objective of such actions is to preserve the accuracy and integrity of publicly accessible scholarly knowledge.
